Pay for the reporting
Right now the Ledger has one funder, and he is also the person writing it.
Almost nobody covers local government here. The Ledger is trying to, and doing it costs money. If you want to help pay for it, this is the place.
Where the money goes
Small and boring places. Hosting the site. Records requests, when an agency charges for copies. The equipment it takes to sit through a meeting and come away with an accurate record of it.
This is a one-person paper and it all runs through one account. There is no budget document to show you yet. If it ever gets complicated enough to need one, this page will have it.
What it does not buy
It does not buy coverage. Giving does not get you a say in what we write about, a warning before a story runs, or a gentler edit. If you support the Ledger and we later publish something that annoys you, that is the arrangement working.
We name any supporter who gives more than $500 in a year, along with the amount, on our ownership page. Below that we publish no names.
The tax part
The Los Al Ledger is a for-profit sole proprietorship. It is not a 501(c)(3) and holds no charitable status of any kind. Your contribution is not tax-deductible, and we will not send you a letter pretending it is. If you need the deduction, there are nonprofit newsrooms that can give you one, and we would rather you gave there than gave here under a wrong impression.
Refunds
Change your mind within 30 days and we send it back. Write to editor@losalledger.org and say so. You do not have to explain.
After you give
Stripe processes the payment and emails you a receipt. We never see your card number and we do not store it.
If you give monthly, one link stops it or updates your card, without talking to anybody. We will not put a retention offer in front of you on the way out. To change the amount, cancel and give again, or just email us.

If you would rather not hand a card to a website, write to editor@losalledger.org and we will work something out.
If money is not the thing you have, send us a tip, tell a neighbor the Ledger exists, or get on the newsletter list. Those help too.
