Corrections

When we get something wrong, we fix it and we say so. We do not silently edit a published story to make an error disappear.

What gets a correction

Any error of fact: a name, number, date, title, vote count, quotation, or characterization that is wrong. The correction appears on the story itself and in this log, with the date.

What gets an update instead

When a story is accurate but events have moved, we add an update note with its own timestamp. An update is not a correction and we do not use one to disguise the other.

Typos

Spelling and grammar fixes that do not change meaning are made without a notice. If a typo changed the meaning, it was not a typo, and it gets a correction.

How to request one

Email corrections@losalledger.org with the story, the specific claim, and what the correct information is. Point us at a document if you have one. We respond to every request, including the ones we decline, and we will tell you why.

Requests to unpublish

We do not remove accurate published stories on request. In rare cases involving a genuine safety risk we will consider it, and any change we make will be noted here.
